'Nicholas B. earns Shining Star Award'

The 8th Annual Lewiston Shining Stars Celebration held May 11, 2005, at the Franco-American Heritage Center was attended by a full house of supporters for the event's 33 teen nominees.

Katie Lauze, Chair of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council, kicked off the evening with her rendition of the National Anthem followed by a welcome/program overview by Community Relations Coordinator Dottie Perham-Whittier who served as master of ceremonies for the evening.

Mayor Lionel C. Guay, Jr., then addressed the 33 nominees noting, "Each year, this celebration highlights the wonderful contributions of Lewiston youth-certainly a very positive reminder that our future is in good hands."

Special comments and entertainment were provided by 2001 Shining Star Serena Fortier who is now a junior at Berklee College in Boston majoring in Professional Music. Fortier, who is near completion of her first album, debuted the song "Driven," an original piece that she wrote for the May 11th Shining Star celebration.

Dottie Perham-Whittier then facilitated a Powerpoint presentation highlighting all 33 nominees and announced the "10" 2005 Lewiston Shining Stars. Assisting Dottie were fellow 2005 Shining Star judges: City Councilor Ronald Jean, Nick Knowlton of GSM Group, and Mary LaFontaine, Manager of the Lewiston Career Center.

Along with a Shining Star certificate and dog tag/chain from the City of Lewiston, the "10" received donated gifts from Davinci's Restaurant, Sam's Italian, L.L. Bean, Lewiston Recreation & Parks Department, and the Lewiston MAINEiacs.

The "10" Shining Stars are: Nicholas Bouyea, Kathryn DeAngelis, Ashley Doyon, Kyle A. Dupuis, Nathalie C. Dupuis, Katie Lacasse, Samantha Leeman, Loren Lepage, Ashley Morgan, and Danielle Nadeau.

Nominators say: “I am proud to nominate Nicholas Bouyea as one of Lewiston’s Shining Stars for 2005, an honor to only be outdone by what he will accomplish in the future . . . His motto seems to be ‘I’ll help,’ and once during this past winter, he took the initiative to shovel my front walk on his way home from school because he simply saw that it needed to be done.”
