Code and Bylaws
1) Preamble - Venturing Code
As a Venturer, I believe that America's strength lies in our trust in God and in courage, strength, and traditions of our people. I will, therefore, be faithful in my religious duties and will maintain a personal sense of honor in my own life. I will treasure my American heritage and will do all I can to preserve and enrich it. I will recognize the dignity and worth of all humanity and will use fair play and goodwill in my daily life. I will acquire the Venturing attitude that seeks the truth in all things and adventure on the frontiers of our changing world.
2) Crew Bylaws
The objectives of Crew No.116 are to have fun, be outdoor minded, participate in age specific activities, participate in conservation projects, participate in High Adventure activities and stretching ones comfort zone.
A) Membership
Membership shall be open to everyone living in the Pine Tree Council Area. Members have to have completed 8th grade and are over the age of 14 and under the age of 21. Their will be a strict three strike policy observed in Crew 116. The first strike will consist of a warning. When a Venturer receives their second strike, a meeting will be set up with the crew advisors and officers. When receiving your third strike, a vote will be taken for permanent removal from Crew 116.
B) Terms of Office
When voting for any officer position a secret paper ballot will be taken. An officer will hold the same position for no more then six months at a time. After ones term is over another secret paper ballot will be taken. An officer will only be allowed two successive terms in the same position.
C) Voting
When voting on a matter secret paper ballots will be taken each time. For a vote to count a least two thirds of the crew must be present. Secret paper ballots will be taken only in these matters, election of new officers, voting out of fellow crew members, crew events and changing of the codes and bylaws.
D) Meetings
Crew meeting will take place on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month. The meetings will take place from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise orally voted and meeting will take place in the basement of Holy Cross Church unless otherwise stated. On the first Thursday of every month an Officers meeting will take place from 6:30 to7:00.
E) Newsletter
Venture Crew 116 official website at the current moment is http://gotroop116.com/Crew116/index.html. It will be the Historian's responsibility to submit all crew events into the Lewiston Sun Journal.
F) Dues/Fundraising
A yearly due of 60 dollars will be required for a member to participate in crew activities. The fee will be due by the end of November.
G) Events
If a member signs up for a crew event they are obligated to pay even if they cannot participate in the activity. This rule will be strictly observed unless otherwise stated by crew Advisor, President or Program Vice President.
